Why see American Ballet Theatre - Harlequinade?

The ABT clown around

A bouncy comedy in the Italian Commedia dell'arte tradition, Harlequinade is revived this season by Artist in Residence Alexi Ratmansky. Set to a popular score that includes Riccardo Drigo's 'Serenade' and making use of Marius Petipa's original notes, don't miss the welcome return of this rare gem!

A madcap love story

Taken from the classic theatrical story, Harlequinade is the screwball tale of the high-spirited Harlequin and the object of his affections, Columbine, daughter of Pantaloon. Hoping to marry her off a to wealthy suitor, Pantaloon makes his disapproval of Harlequin known, leading the young couple to cook up a scheme to be together. Full of romance, mischief, zany characters and humor, this wonderful ballet is a real treat for seasoned ballet lovers and inquisitive first-timers.
